Pepper
Pepper was discovered almost by accident. I was searching the web for more information on chi-weenies, when I came across an ad for an available puppy. I glanced at it, curious to see what the puppy looked like, and was excited by what I saw.
Pepper was the product of a chihuahua and a miniature dachshund, instead of standard size. Not only that, but he was silver dappled. I had always loved the dappled look in dachshunds, but had never seen a chi-weenie with that coloring. He was beautiful! I e-mailed the owners and found out that he was actually still available.
My family and I drove a few hours from home to claim the puppy. He was so small when we got him that I was afraid to even let my kids hold him! After seeing him in person, we decided on the name Pepper (although I often called him Pepper Jack or Pepper Jack Cheese).
Pepper loved Pedro and Story, but unfortunately, they didn't return the sentiment. No matter how hard he tried to entice them to play, they refused more often than not. Pepper finally learned to busy himself with chewing on rawhide or running around the yard (stopping here and there to dig). The addition of a much larger puppy (half black lab / half sheltie) gave him a playmate, although she was a little bit rough because of her size.
When I discovered I needed to reduce the number of pets in my home, I chose Pepper and Story to adopt out. I knew that Pepper would be easy to place because of his playful temperament and beautiful coloring. I was right. I know that Pepper went to a great home where he will be very loved and well taken care of. I found myself tearing up as he left, but the smile on his new owner's face was impossible not to return. I have been promised updates and pictures, which I'll probably use to update this page.
